"The aim is a body that is organized to move with minimum effort and maximum efficiency,
not through muscular strength, but increased consciousness of how it works"
Moshe Feldenkrais
Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) was the founder of the Feldenkrais Method®, a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. The method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics, and an understanding of learning and human development. The method is used for pain management, improving posture, enhancing movement efficiency, and developing a mindful approach to movement and life. It emphasizes learning through exploration and understanding one's own movement patterns and limitations.
The two techniques
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM)
This involves verbally guided movement sequences designed to improve awareness and function. The lessons included in the MADE FOR MOVEMENT courses are Authorized Feldenkrais Practitioner Åsa Lindstedt´s interpretations of the original lessons, with the permission of the International Feldenkrais Federation (IFF).
Functional Integration® (FI)
This is a hands-on form of the method where practitioners guide individuals through movements to improve their awareness and function. To receive an FI, please contact your local Feldenkrais practitioner.

Moshe Feldenkrais was a distinguished physicist, engineer, and judo expert, who developed the Feldenkrais Method®, a revolutionary approach to movement and awareness. Born in 1904 in Ukraine, Feldenkrais moved to Palestine in the 1920s, where he worked as a laborer and later as a surveyor. He pursued his education in France, where he earned his Doctor of Science in Physics at the Sorbonne University.
Feldenkrais was a pioneer in integrating his knowledge of physics, biomechanics, and martial arts to develop a method that enhances human functioning through movement. His method is based on the idea that increasing awareness of movement can lead to improved physical and mental well-being.
Throughout his life, Moshe Feldenkrais was deeply interested in how the human body and mind work together, and he believed that by understanding and improving our movement patterns, we can enhance our overall quality of life. His work has had a lasting impact on fields such as physical therapy, rehabilitation, and personal development.
The Feldenkrais® Method is widely used today to help people improve their movement, reduce pain, and increase their awareness of how they move through life.
"Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of movement, and you improve the quality of life itself"
